Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.
Michael J. Fox
As I sit here thinking about my first official blog post on “The Perfect Family Home”, I keep coming back to the word family. I often say that family is what it is all about. It means the world to me. I remember when I was younger, I certainly had goals and dreams for what I wanted to accomplish, but being a Mom and having a family was always a part of the vision I had for my future. It really has so little to do with the home itself and so much to do with the relationships that take place within the walls of the place we call home.
I like our house, but as someone who loves looking at houses, I could tell you a zillion things I would change and probably if I were to move into a new house tomorrow, there would be some things after living within that space, that I would do differently as well. Its not really a matter of not being satisfied as much as it is that part of my personality that says oh, if this space was a little more this or that, it would be even better.
Yesterday, I hosted 18 members of my side of the family in our home – 18! If I had my druthers, I would have a table large enough to seat all 18 at the same table – wouldn’t that be fantastic! To hold hands for the blessing around one table, to hear the murmur of various conversations, the roar of laughter and the beautiful sounds of sweet giggles from the little ones, well that would just be perfect. We don’t have that kind of space, so we create our own version of perfect by dividing between the dining room and the breakfast area. It works out well, even though a few adults end up at the mostly children’s table. Who knows they may have had a whole lot more fun than the rest of us!
So there it is, the first post in the books. The first words on a clean slate. Family – what it’s all about.
What comes to mind when you think of the perfect family home?
